Here's a classic to those who know, that gets a much needed reissue by Running Back. Originally released in 1984, Syncbeat was a project by Craig Bevan and the lesser known Pete Ramon who were pioneers of UK electro and "Music" was definitely geared towards the breakdancing culture of the time. With its slap bass synths, sharp beats and jacked vocals, it's a real zeitgeist of early '80s street culture. The original remix was by none other than Greg Wilson, and it comes with a bunch of new renditions by another legend - Hamburg's Boris Dlugosch. He delivers some perspectives that add some much appreciated dynamics for modern dancefloors while remaining respectful to the original.

The choice of Tony Humphries to mix the compilation is a significant one. Having received his break in the early '80s as an understudy for the legendary Shep Pettibone's Kiss FM show, Humphries went on to become one of the defining DJs of house music's formative years with his residency at New Jersey's Club Zanzibar and London's Ministry of Sound.

Fort Romeau’s second outing for Running Back is another exercise in dance floor synthesis. Starting where its predecessor “Saku” left us with the green shimmer of a Fairlight, “Emulators” - you might have guessed it - greets us with the grey realism of an E-MU II. Purchased first by none other than Stevie Wonder, immortalised in Ferris Bueller’s ode to absenteeism and the original loon sampler, there is nothing this machine cannot do for you - the same goes for Fort Romeau. His disco-informed, trance-induced tracks that usually end on a high note, are elevated by ambient soundscapes that end with a bang and sugarcoat your warm-up slots, while bird-heavy bonus beats that stand up on their own or help you out in the mix. Since shifting his focus more towards atmospheric, Balearic-minded sounds a few years back, Tornado Wallace has delivered some of the most deliciously humid and glassy-eyed music around. Hopes are naturally high, then, for this long-anticipated debut album. It picks up from where his sublime ESP Institute, Beats In Space and Second Circle releases left off, delivering a warm, evocative, sun kissed blend of shuffling Balearic grooves, horizontal soundscapes, gentle tropical workouts, and rich, synth-laden explorations. There's a pleasing haziness throughout, with live percussion and instrumentation rubbing shoulders with glistening synthesizers, ear-pleasing electronics and pulsing drum machine hits. In other words, it's a fine debut album.
