After the dubbed up odyssey that was "Powerdance", The Legion of Boogie Down do it differently with a freaky deaky discoid cut for the popper sniffing floor freaks out there. Prepare to restoring your energy with a muscle work out that will leave any man or woman flexing their arms in time to the muscle groove. Nabbing a half bar bass loop from Gichy Dan classic "Cowboys And Gangsters" we drive directly to the backroom in a blaze of campo-vampo vocals, vogueing strings, jazz funk guitar licks and headspinning percussion. Think Supertramp meets HI NRG - think Jane Fonda in the meat packing district with the Foot Patrol on each arm. Powerdance is a collective of like minded dance music enthusiasts that joined forces as a sonic dance floor experiment. Tired of identikit dancefloor tracks and uninspired edits, the crew hit the studio in search of something new and original, a retro-influenced bit of forward facing disco which should bring a smile back to mirrorballs everywhere. The journey starts with the self titled "Power Dance", a constantly evolving cut which sees a driving disco rhythm section topped by a revolving cast of wah guitar, dubby trumpet, cooing male vocals and sassy female chat. Druggy fx and 80s informed production techniques call to mind everything dope from the Wag Club to Studio 54 - from Koala Bears to Will Powers, without ever falling victim of pastiche. With the B-side playing host to a percussion heavy 'Beats' mix I'd say there's plenty of two copy potential here - make no mistake, it's nu disco of the DFA vintage!
