Description:

Folamour comes here with a crossover 12-, exploring the whole spectrum of human emotion through his personal vision of a journey. The vinyl record starts with Novalaise, sweet memory of the french country where the producer s from. The track builds itself up around a slow progression of a catchy acoustic piano loop. The listen goes on with La Pierre et Le Sabre, in which Folamour spreads his love for french 90 s House vibes, paying tribute to soul and gospel, two genres that mainly influence him. B-side starts with Rue d Amsterdam, an undeniably Hip-Hop influenced track on which Folamour develops keyboards, bass and vocal samples around a rough beat, taking the listener away on an inescapable urban dream.

Folamour represents the present and future sounds of the disco/house hybrid, staying true to the Glitterbox sonic philosophy. His tracks share the same production values as the timeless records from classic disco imprints in the late 70s; melodies are super-tightly harmonised, instrumentation is lively and the rhythms are designed purely for dance. ‘The Power and The Blessing of Unity’ is almost a mini album, exploring all the facets of Folamour’s sophisticated house and disco tendencies. The title track sparkles with brass stabs and a textbook swinging disco beat, ‘Island Of Recent Father’ breaks things down into synthy house goodness, ‘Let’s Grab Some Smokes’ channels a more contemporary low-fi sound and bringing it home with ‘Home Beyond The Clouds’, Folamour closes with uplifting house hooks and percussion. It’s a real trip.

After D*** P*** became the biggest band in the universe, the house sound we all loved France for had nowhere left to go but deep underground, only now is it beginning to reemerge with the help of a new wave of young producers. First up we have Paris's Folamour, real name Bruno Boumendi. If you're hoping for a soulless rehash then you're looking in the wrong place, this ep has more in common with the dance floor jazz workings of Rythym International and Brownswood than it does with the filter house sounds of Roule. Church are on fire at the moment, with a FYI Chris ep and a Laurence Guy album on the way, so why not take time to worship at their altar before I think up any more crap religious puns...

Smooth and sultry deep house for fans of Dessous and Freerange on offer here from Berlin's Fauxpas Music and new signee, Frenchman Folamour. On the A side are "Chapeaux Rouge" and "Baise En Ville" respectively. Up tempo, dancefloor effective numbers which feature all the right elements; lush Rhodes piano and pitched down female vocals with flanged guitars and a swing fuelled rhythm section to boot. What more do you want? Well the B side starts with "Lost between Friendly Fires" which is a deeper, slow motion affair for the afterhours, as is "Walking to the Macadam" with its sombre keys and orchestral samples perfect for the drive home.
