A two-track heater from one half of the Mister Saturday Night duo, Eamon Harkin. With Eamon literally being 50% the 'face' of MSN, you'd expect the record to give a strong representation of the sounds and feels of a proper Mister Saturday Night. "Weaker Moments" kicks us off in excellent form, a tumultuous acid line competing with well plotted drum hits to create something highly frenetic and full of sensuous wobbles n ripples. "Easily Amused" moves up the gears to a brisk, techy 4/4, heavy with dub inflections as echo-laden stabs rub up against a subby kick drum and epic, end-of-night melodies before finally decorated with swirling synthesizer elements and enveloping pad washes. Nice stuff here from the Brooklyn mainstay.

Shore is a vibraphonist and composer based in Brooklyn. Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter from Mister Saturday Night met him through NYC music institution, Nublu, where he worked with the legendary jazz maestro Butch Morris and Sex Mob and Tom Waits drummer Kenny Wollesen. At the very first Planetarium listening session, where Eamon and Justin blend records into live performances for people sprawled on the floor of a loft for six hours, one of Justin's friends leaned over to him and asked, "What is this record? It's amazing." It wasn't a record. It was Shore, playing A Hundred Times in the corner of the room.

the label will not be tied to a specific genre, as we will instead focus on releasing any kind of music that we feel is a little bit different and interesting, but somehow make sense in this day and age. for our first batch of releases, we will be focusing on japanese music. to be honest, i have been watching the recent rise of global interest in japanese music with a skeptical eye, not sure of how to feel about all these labels overseas licensing great albums that were birthed in our country. but then, i was told by somebody i greatly respect that i should do something similar with mule, and put our own spin on it, which sounded like a good idea to me. after a period of procrastination, i finally got around to doing it. we are starting things off with a compilation of japanese disco, boogie and soul music that we selected from a modern dance music perspective ? the kind of songs that we feel would intrigue music fans across the world.

Quality electro-funk-era record here from Aleem and Leroy Burgess. Identical twin brothers Taharqa Aleem and Tunde Ra Aleem began their career as The Ghetto Fighters with covers of Jimi Hendrix's "Cry Of Love" and "Rain Bow Bridge" (they also shared the same apartment with Jimi). They formed Aleem with Leroy Burgess as a vocalist during the early '80s and originally released dance songs on their own label, NIA Records ("Hooked On Your Love", "Get Down Friday Night" & "Release Yourself", featured here). 1985's "Confusion", resulted in a deal with Atlantic where they released two albums.

Originally released on RCA in 1978 'Keep On Trying' was an underground club hit. Code 718 aka iconic NYC DJ Danny Tenaglia dropped this 'E2-E4' riffing classic back in the mists of 1992. Manuel Gottsching's original track would have been a staple of NYC clubs back then and would have featured in the warm up sets of jocks like Tenaglia who favoured the longer, deeper sets as well as on the play-lists of institutional night-spots such as the Loft and the Garage. The track's influence on a whole era of DJ's and producers that followed is immeasurable and across 3 sublime mixes Tenaglia distills the magic of the original into something totally NYC and club-friendly without losing any of the Gottsching magic, even managing to sprinkle a little Grace Jones in the mix with her fabulous 'I floated on a cloud' vocal sample liberally applied.

Globally acclaimed and recognised star Harry Romero has been a driving force in the scene since the 90s. He’s released on such seminal labels as Sex Mania, Power Music and Strictly Rhythm, but also contemporary imprints like Ovum and Defected. Never far from the dance charts and an inductee into Pete Tong's Hall of Fame, Harry’s own Bambossa Records is another fine chapter in his definitive story. Emotional Rescue once more on the hard to find party curio tip, this time tapping up the work of one Ken Ramm whose 1984 burner "Spark The Universe" was previously fetching handsome prices online, and with good reason. The funk is loose and limber on the track, not least when it comes to the bassline and psyched-out worldly percussion. The dub mix pushes out into trippier territory, and then Emotional bossman Chuggy takes the reins on the flip for his own Disco mix of the original. Whichever version you plump for, you're onto a winner.
