On his recent releases under the Nu alias, Rolf Fabian Laumer has giddily fused the smooth, clicking rhythms of minimalist tech-house with a range of global influences. The results have, by and large, been superb, sitting somewhere between sun-kissed warmth and haunting iciness. He's at it again on "Man O To", layering a drifting, chant-like vocal over a backing track that somehow joins the dots between cumbia, dub and tech-house. French maestro Pepe Bradock handles remix duties, first wrapping the vocal around a typically dusty, off-kilter house rhythm, before laying down a slightly tougher, stripped back Dub that's the EP's standout moment.3

Richeart is a fresh young upstart from Italy that’s been doing his thing like he is from the D. He played these 3 joints to Jerome Derradji and after some tweaking and editing, here’s his first 12” for Still Music. "Yesterday Said Tomorrow" contains radiant keys and galloping drums, continuing one heartwarming riff throughout the track. "Heavyside Function" gets a further edit by the label head and ends up as a hefty, percussive, dancefloor destroyer with clamoring drums, rumbling bass and a tribal, hypnotic groove that should lock any dancefloor down. "Double Paradiddle" is a shadowy, more experimental number with grainy drums and squelchy b-line rattling up against hazed pads and clammy atmospheres. Three excellent tracks showcasing the talents of this new producer. Excellent stuff.

Of these new recordings, they cut only five copies for themselves and a few DJ friends of theirs. Today, Melodies International is very proud to bring you MEL006 and MEL007. Pacific Horizons are outliers, largely unconcerned with much that goes on beyond their LA studio. Immersed in their own universe of sound, the pair cherry pick from genres to create their own raw, lo-fi take on what, if you must pin it down, can be defined as loosely Balearic. The duo's sound calls on various eras of pyschedelia through the years. From the scene's roots to the very modern but always circles back to the initial shamanic intention of mind altering ritual. Exploring the musical possibilities of her British-Jamaican identity, it’s seen her ? backed by some of London’s best and brightest musicians ? bridging the lines between soulful roots reggae and inclusive, open-ended UK jazz. The track is a cover of Nora Dean, a Jamaica-born vocalist who put her name to a spate of sweetly-sung roots and lovers rock in the ‘70s and ‘80s. With Zara putting her spin on the 1971 original, the format of the single nods to that heritage: with a dinked centre (requiring adapter), it also comes backed with a reggae version on the b-side. Tracing the musical heritage of the Caribbean, it’s another side to her interconnected vision of the diaspora.
