French selector and crate digger Jay Airiness comes correct with his debut edit collection on vinyl. As the title suggests, he's taking us on a tour of the east stopping off at various sweet spots along the way; "Magik Carpet" sees us taking off from LAX. The most trad disco cut of the bunch, its eastern bent is found in the Turkish snake-charming horns towards the end. "Arabian Disco" takes us further south toward Morocco with its resonant gourd twangs wrapping themselves loosely around the strutting beats. "Cornes De Gazelles" is the soundtrack to a party in old Delhi; all chaotic and energetic while "Walla Walla" sees us travelling further south to the shores of Goa for a sweaty throw down that's more funk and boogie than it is disco. Richard Sen's last outing on [Emotional] Especial - the bleep revival brilliance of "Songs of Pressure" - was something of a stone cold killer, so hopes are naturally high for this belated follow-up. The title track again digs deep for inspiration, doffing a cap to the starry futurism of Detroit, psychedelic acid and the drum-machine driven jack of early Chicago house. The flipside Dub of the same track takes it into uncharted territory, with hazy, drawn-out chords and post-production effects only serving to emphasize the heavy nature of Sen's vintage groove. Bonus "Shoc Horracore" explores similar territory, while offering a knowing wink towards obscure 1980s horror movie soundtracks and the bold synthesizer lines of Italo-disco.

After whetting our appetite with the sweetly spiced Asian flavours of the mighty "Nagan", Cain takes another trip to India with a trio of exotic dancefloor heaters for Highlife. A-side cut "Bakhtin" draws us in with the sultry sounds of tuned percussion and humid vocal loops before frenzied drumming and reverberating bass raise the temperature into the mid 40s. Fast paced and freaked out, this is a psychedelic house hit to rival the best of the Acid Arab series. The flipside opens with the irresistible polyrhythm of "Gordito", a hypnotic fusion of tribal percussion and steely sarod which opens up into proper rave tackle thanks to a bubbling bassline on the Moog Little Phatty (the clue's in the title for the hispanophones).
