Originally released in 2011, the Floral Shoppe LP by Ramona Andra Xavier aka Macintosh Plus has been considered by some to be the defining album of the vaporwave genre. Based in Portland, Oregon she has has actively released her music online since the age of 14 and produced over 40 full length albums, spanning dozens of aliases since 2005. This reissue by Todd Ledford's Olde English Spelling Bee features all 11 of the original tracks: collection of lo-fi '80's pop mutations that fans of the genre still consider as seminal - not to mention being highly sought after.

Motor City veteran Marcellus Pittman has been in fine form since returning from a four-year hiatus in early 2018. This EP - his third of the year - is, of course, really rather good. Opener "Something Like (A Dream)" is particularly good, offering a perfect balance between the rolling, head-nodding, pitched-down lusciousness of Beatdown and the spacey, delay-laden warmth of more peak-time focused Detroit deep house. If you're looking for something a little less smooth, check the low-slung, off-kilter, cyber-acid rawness of "Jamie 326 Tsot". While rather good, it feels a little out of place next to the fluttering, stripped-back deep house tunefulness of "Breath Beat", whose echoing chords are especially alluring.

An Island In The Moon is the perfectly conceived minimal ambient project from Italian composers Pier Luigi Andreoni (Doubling Riders, ATROX) and Silvio Linardi. Andreolina being a mix of the names of the two musicians who were both deeply involved with the label Auf Dem Nil on which the album was originally released in 1990. The duo stick to a disciplined and simple palette using only two synthesizers and a Roland S50 sampler. They are joined by fellow electronic journeyman Riccardo Sinigaglia who contributes piano and samples on two tracks. Taking influences from Italian minimalism while adding some jazz hints Andreolina sprawls, weightless instrumentals that never stay soporific for too long on this singular rare album.

Tommy Mandel’s “Mello Magic” on Invisible City Editions is a compilation of personal synth-laden pop songs created between 1980-87 in NYC. BIG BIG TIP! His professional work as a keyboardist and vocalist found him on stage and in the studio with many of the 80s greats from the Clash, Todd Rundgren, B-52s, Violent Femmes, The Ramones, Tina Turner, Mark Ronson, Dire Straits and Bryan Adams. While offstage and out of the major studio sessions, Tommy wrote in little books, made animation films and hooked up a massive amount of synthesizers, sequencers,microphones and recorded songs like diary entries.

Sandra Wright was an incredibly powerful Soul singer who was born in Memphis and later based in Nashville. She had joined a white R&B band Canned Souls in 1967 and recorded a few 45’s before being spotted by Freddie North and signed by David Johnson. Wounded Woman is one of the greatest Deep Southern Soul albums of all time. It was recorded at Broadway Studios Muscle Shoals in 1974 produced by David Johnson, in the same studio that Swamp Dogg used for his seminal albums by Doris Duke and Sandra Phillips. The album was licensed to Stax records Truth subsidiary label but only a couple of 45 were issued before Stax’s demise. It was eventually released by Demon records in the UK in 1989 to critical acclaim. That issue is now extremely sought after by Soul fans and collectors, copies change hands for up to ￡200.

First up on the A side is "Tied Up (Hanners edit)," which locks into a snaking, submerged and deliciously tense Afro work out for show-stopping dancefloor drama. "Happy Together" is much smoother by comparison, all laid back island boogie with cheery synth strings and ample bass sleaze to keep you warm at night.
