Mr Bongo brings another Brazilian rarity to the masses with this sublime reissue of Tim Maia's Disco Club. Recorded in 1978, it's a latter-period gem from the larger than life legend, combining the glitz and glamour of disco's heyday with Maia's raw funk and soul roots. When Maia first heard Little Richard as a teenager, he knew what kind of singer and artist he wanted to be. Five formative years spent in the US, where he ran wild in NYC and joined a doo-wop group called the Ideals, did little to dampen his enthusiasm for black music. Stirred by the civil rights movement in the US and driven by a punk spirit, Maia went on to blaze his own trail through the early 70s over the course of four successful albums for Polydor. Moving away from the straight MPB, Tropicalia and international rock dominating the airwaves, his sound represented a new black Brazilian consciousness.

Celebrating its 10th release, Jazzy Couscous dug in its Japanese crates to bring us a forgotten gem produced by Japan's Jazz legend Kazumi Watanabe. The track called "" (Garuda) was originally released in 1984 on a private press dedicated to a famous Japanese wrestler, Antonio Inoki. Nearly 5min of an ambient beauty taking you through the mysteries of South East Asia's deepest jungles. On the B side, Jazzy Couscous invited Kuniyuki, a true musical genius from Japan knowing no boundaries when it comes to sublimate raw diamonds like Garuda. He delivers an outstanding remix, taking the listener on to a musical journey of exotic deepness. Using traditional drums, he tints the track with an authentic tribal and epic color while synth and pads are creating a dreamy atmosphere in the second part. A true beauty.

Almost ten years ago, back in November of 2009, before Let’s Play House was even a humble basement-bar and hotel-lobby party, Jacques Renault quietly released a four-track EP on Hole in the Sky, an imprint run by Canyons’ Leo Thomson and Ryan Grieve, called Favicon , that was both a snapshot of New York City’s glitter-dusted disco-revival haze and the culmination of the first few years of Renault’s career through the club circuit. It quickly became a cult classic and set in motion much of what followed for Renault; it added some fuel to the fire that was Runaway, his project with Marcos Cabral, and helped ready the stage for LPH’s entry.

Fresh from dropped an EP of killer edits on Bahnsteig23 under the alternative Beard in Dust alias, Leonid Lipelis pops up on Aussie imprint Animals Dancing. Happily, the cheekily named I Did These For Myself But Now It's For Everyone contains some of the Moscow-based producer's best material yet. Check, in particular, melodious A-side "Children Song", where sampled Japanese children's chants rise above a snappy, delay heavy drum machine groove and a Marimba style melody. Over on side B, "Video Track" is a similarly jaunty and positive affair, with more Kalimba style melodies and African chants weave in and out of a fuzzy, hybrid deep house/nu-disco backing track. While not as instantly arresting as the A-side, it's nevertheless an impressive dancefloor workout.

The Hessle Audio co-founder, Pangaea, comes through with two new cold-as-this-February rockers for the dancehall, mashing up just about every genre that the UK hardcore continuum has touched over the years. It's been a while since the man last released a solo EP on his imprint, so we're pretty excited! First up, it's "Bone Sucka", a bouncy, breaks-led carnival monster that will undoubtedly tear it all apart when it lands on the floor via the speakers - what a bomb! The flip is "Proxy", a piano-led house nugget with visceral elements of UK bass running down its spine - one for the late-night jams. Another Hessle missile.

Sheffield-based East Midlander Scott "Thatmanmonkz" Moncrieff takes a break from delivering dusty deep house twelves to serve up some sizzling-hot re-edits on Whiskey Disco. The Shadeleaf Music founder begins strongly, first slicing, dicing and dubbing a sax-heavy, disco-funk floor-filler ("Gimme Skin"), before exploring impassioned, soul-fired disco-funk pastures on the chorus-heavy "Yuh Can Ged It". The fun continues on the flip side, where Moncrieff underpins a lolloping disco groove with subtle house drums on "Shek Dat". Fittingly, he saves the best till last, reaching for the filters on a soaring edit of a spiraling disco workout that sounds like a peak-time anthem in the making. As they'd say in the Steel City, "Tha nailed it, pal".

A sweet reissue of an underground classic from 1982 here, bootlegged badly in recent years, but Isle of Jura does it right with this remaster by Matt Colton. Q were a one hit wonder (if you could even call them that!), responsible for "The Voice Of Q". Comprised of American producers Bruce Weeden & Michael Forte with their revolving cast of musicians - this electro funk/disco project is finally getting paid its dues. Deep, funked-up and spacey disco, complete with vocoder - it almost seems familiar! A true spirit of the times. Features a previously unreleased track on the flip, "Keep It Strong" (unreleased dub edit) which is a balearic tinged number that's equally as good.
