House heaven on 12-inch. A lofty description, but one that fits Most Excellent Unlimited's latest offering perfectly. In 1990, Boy George and Simon Rogers (The Fall) made a record called 'Generations Of Love' for George's post-Culture Club project, Jesus Loves You. Legendary NYC DJ and producer Bruce Forest was one of several big names brought in to do a set of remixes, and the Better Days veteran got to work on several contrasting versions of the cut. The mixes heard here, done at London's famed Olympic Studios, are slices of utter ecstasy for anyone who has a taste for '90s deep house euphoria and ambient dancefloor excursions, but were unfortunately lost amongst the countless alternate mixes.

Description:

Mr. K returns to the 12-inch format for the latest in his series of edits for Most Excellent Unlimited, making the most of the long-playing wax with two contrasting cuts. First up is Ike Strong's "Boogie Land," an obscure side that was originally released in 1981 and saw plenty of action at the Paradise Garage. The instrumental "Lady, Lady, Lady" first appeared in DJ sets in the summer of '75, the prime breakout year for disco, making its way from Chicago all the way to clubs on both coasts despite having no national distribution.

More hot-to-trot edits from Most Excellent Unltd's 7" series. As usual, legendary New York scalpel fiend Danny Krivit is at the controls (under the now familiar Mr K alias, of course). A-side cut "1 2 3" boasts Krivit's edit of an obscure, unreleased acetate mix by Walter Gibbons of a jaunty funk number rich in military style drum fills, mazy electric organ solos and bold bass guitar riffs. Over on the flip you'll find "My Sweet Summer Suite", a drum-heavy workout that seems to be built out of elements of a number of low-slung disco and funk tunes. The clipped, loopy groove - as previously used on a number of Krivit's other edits - is loaded with lots of extra percussion and some trippy, Amazonian flute motifs.

He begins with the heavy drum breaks, guttural funk guitars, bombastic bass and winding saxophones of "City", smartly emphasizing the densely layered percussion and the original track's various instrumental solos. On the flip you'll find the equally intoxicating and mind-altering "Sun, Sun, Sun", where chanted vocals - in tribute to that big orange ball in the sky - rise over a metronomic synth bassline and an African-influenced rhythm track. It's a chunk of genuine dancefloor voodoo just crying out to be played at sunset and sunrise.
