After a debut outing on International Black last year with his best friend Mallard, LT graduates onto Rhythm Section INTL with a stunning debut solo effort: FOREST FLOOR. Aged just 20 years old, Lewis Taylor aka LT is another prodigal talent from the north of England, whose association with Rhythm Section goes back to his school days. A fan of the label from an early age, Lewis regularly made pilgrimages to the pool hall as soon as he was old enough to do so. It was these visits with his old school friend Mallard (who had recently moved down to London from Derbyshire to study music) which proved to be a formative influence, prompting him to try his hand at production...It turned out he was quite the natural, with his second ever effort as an 18 year old making it onto this very EP.

Making a splash with RS019 is a newcomer called Mallard. Discovered by Bradley after being front and centre for almost every RS dance since 2016, the South London based producer and multi-instrumentalist makes a serious first impression with his debut EP ‘ VERTE’. Currently studying Jazz Double-Bass at Trinity School of Music, Mallard’s productions demonstrate a keen ear for groove with a level of musicality rarely heard in electronic productions. As spring dawns, Rhythm Section International go from Local Artist to a pair of very ‘local’ artists - Peckham’s very own Chris Watson + Chris Coupe; otherwise known as FYI CHRIS , who present the ‘Back In The Millennium’ EP as the labels 5th offering. The EP was born after a rather hazy late night listening session at Rhythm Section HQ, where bossman Bradley Zero was instantly beguiled by the Duo’s hypnotic and rhythmically complex arrangements. The record begins abrasively with the trance-inducing mechanical stutter of 'back in the millennium', before shuffling into downbeat number ‘Jeru' and then picks things up with the peak time groove of ‘need i say more’ before bringing us back down to earth with the melancholic acid bump of 'dedication’.

Following well-regarded outings on Banoffee Pies and Linoli Industries, FYI Chris returns to the loving arms of Rhythm Section International, and its 'Executive Producer' Bradley Zero. He's in fine form, too, delivering a quartet of tracks that largely steer clear of predictable deep house tropes. Check, for example, the curious - but rather good - "Russian Woodpecker", where spacey synth hits and Scanner style mobile field recordings join forces with a jumpy bassline and off-kilter rhuthm track. The loose and dreamy "Repeater" adds a little dub-wise flavour to a loose and lo-fi, MPC head's take on dream house, while "How To Ruin The World" is an undeniably melancholic journey that's as melodious as it as lo-fi. Closer "Lone Star", meanwhile, is a stripped back groove joint of the highest calibre.

"Tolle" sees him slip further towards toasty, low-slung deep house territory, before he breaks up the beats and fires up the Rhodes on deliciously jazzy closer "Ligo".

‘Technician' is a percussion led rhythmic exploration, spanning 6 tracks which take in down-tempo grooves to up-beat workouts, all held together by a smooth, lucid sonic palette and arresting, unorthodox live percussive elements.

Already an accomplished drummer and percussionist, Contours manages to combine driving rhythm, lush textures and hypnotic melodies to create a sound that feels very much at home as part of the Rhythm Section imprint, while simultaneously pushing it forward into new, undiscovered territory.
