Description:

Nyra fires up his bobbing and weaving Canoe label once more with his sights firmly set on the dancefloor by way of some feisty disco edits shot through with a healthy dose of Detroit-flavoured dust. You could certainly imagine Moodymann having a wonderful time rolling out the looped up, chopped up, irrepressibly funky "Trust For You," epic filter sweeps and all. "It's Your Time" packs a sizable punch in its rhythm section, giving the disco licks, string stabs and brass hits an extra urgency that would slot neatly into a techno set when you need to shed some light on the dungeon boogie.

Nyra continues to shine on his own Canoe label, making the most of the creative freedom to show every side of his musicality. "Take My Hand" deserves to be huge, displaying a devilish instinct for a simple disco loop, a powerful vocal and a whiff of fist shaking New York house pressure that will leave its mark long after the club kicks out. "Life Is Trippy" switches stance entirely with a snappy boogie-indebted jam for lighter moments. "On & On" meanwhile summons a rowdy Detroit techno backbone that, paired with the bold disco licks, calls to mind the kind of fare DJ Bone can so expertly drop. "Falling For Love" maintains the fusion of rough and smooth with equally brilliant, party-starting results.

Canoe is the new label from Nyra that finds him indulging his personal musical preferences while still retaining his club-ready tendencies already established on labels such as Never Learnt, Elastic Dreams and more. For the second Canoe release Noface has been invited along to deliver the A-side track, and it's a killer slice of jazz-laced bumping house replete with sax and vibes. Where "Young Larry" plays things fast and loose, Nyra's "Sisco Visco" on the B-side is an unabashed disco burner with a tight-as-you-like beat and plenty of filter-swept samples to keep the party sizzling.
