Description:

Highlife's Highlands hero Cain returns with three more completely unique afro/techno fusions. "Atai" thumps from the off with flappy kora licks loosely leading the groove. "Juok" strips things back to percussion and an ominous sub driving tension before the big kick drum release. Finally we land with "Levare" that adopts a classic dancehall/breakbeat arrangement for its structure while accordions woozily wheeze gently in the background and dubby horn textures float heavily in the foreground.

After whetting our appetite with the sweetly spiced Asian flavours of the mighty "Nagan", Cain takes another trip to India with a trio of exotic dancefloor heaters for Highlife. A-side cut "Bakhtin" draws us in with the sultry sounds of tuned percussion and humid vocal loops before frenzied drumming and reverberating bass raise the temperature into the mid 40s. Fast paced and freaked out, this is a psychedelic house hit to rival the best of the Acid Arab series. The flipside opens with the irresistible polyrhythm of "Gordito", a hypnotic fusion of tribal percussion and steely sarod which opens up into proper rave tackle thanks to a bubbling bassline on the Moog Little Phatty (the clue's in the title for the hispanophones). After all that excitement it's time to take a break, watching the sun set over the red dust to the transcendental sounds of "Cajal". The ever present marimba forms a pattering rhythm which carries the sitar and zither through until the tabla carry us home. Another exotic essential for your next basement throwdown.
