Alma Negra are back on Heist! After their much applauded 2017 release with that great Soulphiction remix, they've been rather busy taking over the scene. They started their new label 'Alma Negra records' where they released 3 ep's in quick succession, with new as well as older material that showcases their tropical roots and keen ear for clubby reworks. They launched their live show, doing gigs across Europe with a highlight at one of London's more intimate live venues: the Jazz Cafe. Their latest outing -making their release count a total of 4 in only 8 months - was on Marcel Vogel's Lumberjacks in Hell and explored the more live / rework side of their project. Now they're back on Heist with 3 new tracks, supported by an Awanto 3 remix.

12 Rhythms as the name already suggests, is a Collection Series on Alma Negra Records. Each Issue is dedicated to a specific rhythm based on its groove stemming from its cultural origins. In a world surrounded by a plethora of grooves and rhythms, we have selected those which influenced us or just simply liked the most. The first Issue and first release on Alma Negra Records is dedicated to the unmistakable rhythms of Brazil. Growing up surrounded by the rich sounds from traditional to totally experimental; Brazilian Music has heavily influenced our own sound and direction.

Alma Negra is a Swiss collective that consists of four musically driven friends, the Figuiera Brothers Dersu & Diego whose roots are established firmly in their Cape Verdian heritage, Dario with his half and half Portuguese/Italian mix and finally Mario with Spanish roots. They are all passionate diggers who love playing music from all over the world, something that's evident in their productions as well. Encompassing Jazz, African and Latin sounds to Soul, funk, Disco, House and even Techno. As far as inspiration goes they mention Donald Byrd, Fela Kuti and Theo Parrish. Digger's Workouts, Part 3 is the final release in the series and continues where the first two volumes left us but that's not all, included is also a remix by the hot duo Rainer Trueby & Corrado Bucci present TRUCCY.

Swiss fusionists with previous on Highlife and INI Movement, Alma Negra make the logical leap to Sofrito with three rich tribal workouts: "Mageko" squares our focus on a deep cry that punctures the snake-like percussion with a yearning soulful urgency. "Tabanka" adds more dancefloor appear with a off-beat arrangement that you could imagine eclectic acts such as Optimo utilising really creatively. Finally we hit "Ramboia", a track where Doc Martin-style pads breeze through a small African village, shrouding the percussion and chants with a great sense of mysticism. Rich.
