Landing straight after 415-PR10, Public Release's first in a loose series of San Francisco-centric compilations, this three-track 12-inch is a further exploration of the Bay Area's sounds and aesthetics, though here it’s explored via remixes produced by friends from abroad. The A-side is a complete overhaul, reimagining, and extension of Anonstop's "Seaside" by Thee Loving Hand, Tim Goldsworthy's solo moniker of choice these days. The ex-DFA Records co-founder and former member of UNKLE took the tune's Balearic foundation and used it as a bed for what one might mistake as a lost Arthur Russell cut from the World of Echo era. Joel Wells lent his airy, light, sweet vocals to the track, while Darren Morris added synth work to bolster Tim's usual production genius. It's carefree and emotive, the aural equivalent of a big, toothy smile.

The NYC Loft Trax peeps are back, back, back! For volume 5 in their series of retro house rhythms based on old school New York garage and Ch-town house oldies. 'Vibe Instru' is pure NY garage, with hissing cymbals, stabby keyboard lines and a swinging rhythm. 'Chaka's Dub' gets on a DJ Sneak-style filter-disco house tip, pushing a Chaka Khan OG loop right back in the mix, while the funky house 4/4s lead the way to the dancefloor. 'Love' takes inspiration from Larry Heard's classic 'Mystery Of Love', but upping the BPMs for a funky house style remake. 'Piano' marries jazzy piano with a simple, swinging drum machine rhythm - it's like a Casio keyboard demo for 'Jazz House'! NYC Mix maestro Mike Maurro has turned in a storming, 14+ minute version of Patrick Adams' classic "Weekend" by Phreek, a true blue club classic from 1978 (Later covered by Class Action, sampled by Todd Terry etc). "Weekend" was an absolutely huge Paradise Garage staple getting unlimited spins from Larry Levan during the club's lifespan, the definition of a 'Garage' record indeed. The track is already electric in it's original form but here Mike Maurro pushes the energy levels right through the roof, birthing a fresh new mix of a stone cold classic! On the B-side we have the low slung funk of The New Birth's killer "Deeper", released in '77 as a single on promo 12" this cut gets the MM mix treatment, with the intro extended and the drums brought fully upfront in the mix Mike has teased out all the best parts of the original arrangement while managing to stamp his always unique style on this new version. Simply put, another set of essential mixes from a modern day master!
