Jeremy Hyman steps up to FT with the first of two 12" EPs that are a coordinated blast of colorful, galaxy-edge plastic techno from the master percussionist who moonlights in Lifted, Boredoms, Animal Collective, and more. Always rhythmatic in exciting ways, Hyman's drum programming here is more arms than buttons, injecting a fly human element in the 12". "Slide" does what it says with amazing technoid bass work and a propulsive sense of timing, "Madness" hovers and falls and hovers again, and "Tinted Mirror" is some sort of Foodman-meets-Prescription-Records house symphony, rising and rising and rising. Tip!

Future Times enlists DC's Sami of the wonderful 1432R crew for more of that hallucinatory, refracted house music that's quickly becoming his trademark. "Planing" sees the producer head deeper into that 5D sound - drums are twisted through dimensions via an assortment of delays and flanges while a mystic flute line dances playfully in the shadows. Like taking LSD at a Goan full moon ritual, it's tribal nature is sent spiraling into the cosmos through a mountain of lysergia. "Sickos" pulls our head out of the trip for long enough for us get down on the floor with some swingin' and slammin' action which delicately positions fluttering keys over shoulder dropped drums and saturated bass. Another stone cold winner for team Future Times. You need.

New York's Joe Williams makes a debut appearance on the always hazy future times with the dreamy "Brass Mechanics", a spectacularly stoned mechanical riff on Philip Glass and Steve Reich's minimalism. Sounding like a Downtown recital exprienced on mescaline and faded bean bags, this soft focus storyboard of fractal images and flashing colours is packed full of healing frequences and subconscious rhythm. Over on the flip "Tarahumara" takes us through the A-side themes on an 8bit redux, making for a tasty 7" treat!

Future Times has been on fire of late, delivering must-have released from Max D (the delicious Boost full-length) and Will DiMaggio (the synth-gasm that is "Fusion (Broadcast Mix)"). Predictably, this is another fine 12" to add to the collection. It comes from Jason "Steve Summers" Letkiewicz, and marks his first appearance under the Rhythm Based Lovers alias for seven years. "Frequency Illusion" offers a near perfect fusion of dense-but-loose drum machine percussion, chiming deep house melodies, and the undulating synth bass of classic New York electrofunk. "Number Games", meanwhile, is an altogether deeper, drowsier and more cosmic affair, with horizontal electronics stretching out over a sweaty, pitched-down groove.

Future Times do it right for the deeeeeeejays once again, firing up the press for another single sided sureshot purpose built for club use. These one sided offerings always hit the spot (need I remind you of Hunee's Don Carlos edit, or the incendiary Jack J 12" from 2014) and this little baby is no exception. Will Dimaggio makes his FT debut with a serious slab of bubbling, synthetic and jazzy house for vaped out dancers and the smoke machine crew. "Fusion" channels the glorious synth-work of many over-the-top pioneers through Mr. DiMaggio's skills on the keys, and the track bumps and bops with a nasty, ruff logic for the DJ crew and their dancers. Essential for those who feel that need to close your eyes and play air keys when you hear an absolute beast rip thruough the speakers at "the spot". Killer!

His 12" for Mood Hut last year flipped many wigs and this 12" is further proof that the dude is full-fledged. "Thirstin'" takes the day-in-the-life quintessence of "Something (On My Mind)" even farther, using his voice to beautify the sparkling, spaced track. The B-Side "Atmosphere" is just as mighty, as Jack channels a velvet Patrick Adams vibe in this gorgeous instrumental, the pianos in particular take the song to a galactic place. Both tracks feel like you could live inside them, each as good for walking around This Life chillin' as they are for the party. Essential Summer Music.
