While David Moufang, also known as Move D, certainly needs no introduction, the label Polyfon remained a tip for insiders. It might seem like a long shot, but that's probably what led to the fact that the paths of David Moufang and Wolfram Both - one of the Polyfon founders - crossed a few years back. The Erfurt located imprint was mostly recognized for its underdog releases from Berlin-based Tomtomgroove (The Funkman), Steffen Baldo aka Ugly Drums from Cologne (Basement Amusement Park, The Next Room) and even Workshops mastermind Lowtec who released his critically acclaimed Angstrom EP with the Thuringian Label. The rather unique position, that Polyfon worked itself up to, was presumedly the reason for Move D to join them for his upcoming release.

Originally released in 2007 via Stilove4music, this was Manchester returning fire to Detroit after Moodymann and Theo sent MPC missiles over the Atlantic. Backed, at the time by fellow Manc star Trus'me, this four track EP smashed to bits the notion of Detroit ruling the roost with MPC jams. Deconstructing classic jazz-funk and soul bombs, layering them up across the Akai power box and replaying the samples with added house beats and in turn showing the rest of the world that Manchester can rock the crate dug sample house as good as anyone. Al Hudson's "Music", Big Ned's "To Prove My Love", Arthur Adams' "You Got The Floor" and Roy Ayers' "Searching" all went under the knife and came out of the operation bigger and better for it!

Back in 2001, Joshua 'Iz' Michaels decided to dust off his rarely used C++ alias for a two-track missive on Music For Freaks, the now sought-after I/O EP. Here, it gets a worthy re-press. Both tracks are typical of the period in which they were recorded and released, but have also lasted the test of time rather well. A-side "Sure" is a brilliantly trippy, "left coast" style affair, with Michaels wrapping watery electronics and eccentric samples around a bumping, sub-bass driven groove. Flipside "Angie's F*cked" is similarly hazy and dubbed-out, albeit with bolder electronics, snappier beats and a more hypnotic, 'locked in' feel.

Arno E Mathieu has been a part of the enlarged house movement since 2005. Yes, that's 12 years in service, which means that he's kind of a veteran by now. This, however, is no surprise; the producer's work is carefully crafted and, whether he's making progressive or tech, he has a clear ability to catch the dancer's attention with some pretty seductive grooves. He's back on his favoured Clima label after a few years dipping and diving into other imprints, but it's like he's never been away. "Circumstances Of Chaos" is a wide-eyed, big-room kind of tune that stabs its large drums to a raucous tempo, while "7 Janvier 2015" breaks the predictable 4/4 groove into a sparse nu-jazz sort of lick for the deeper ends of the DJ set, and "Together?" ties the EP off to a close with the help of a steely house structure accompanied by warm waves of dubbiness . A magnetic outing from this reliable producer.
