As the fourth full-length from the Canadian singer/songwriter born Leslie Feist, Pleasure builds off the warm naturalism of the Polaris Prize-winning Metals and emerges as her most formally defiant and expansive work so far. Recorded over the course of three months?in Stinson Beach, Upstate New York, and Paris ? Pleasure was co-produced by Feist with longtime collaborators Renaud Letang and Mocky. Following the album’s title-track, Feist has now shared ‘Century’, which features Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker in addition to reaffirming Feist as a cagily inventive guitar player, the album threads her shape-shifting and often haunting vocals into sparse and raw arrangements.

NYC-based Bristol exile Milo Johnson AKA DJ Nature has long enjoyed a good relationship with Futureboogie Recordings, having first provided remix services for the West Country label back in 2013. This, though, is still his first EP for Dave Harvey's imprint. His loose, groovy and jazz-flecked style of deep house naturally comes to the fore on warm and melodious opener "Born Lifted", while the slightly more driving, sample-heavy "My Life" recalls his early '90s work as Nature Boy. "What Isn't" is a dusty deep house producer's take on electro-tinged instrumental hip-hop (reflective of his '80s work as part of Massive Attack's Wild Bunch collective) while "Loving You More" cannily joins the dots between lo-fi deep house, Balearic dreaminess and classic jazz-funk.

Description:

Via releases on Smalleville and Mule Musiq (amongst others), Parisian producer Jacques Bon has established himself as one of France's foremost purveyors of loved-up, soft-focus deep house melodiousness. On this Beats In Space debut, he continues on a similar theme, wrapping fluttering, Balearic electronics and eyes-closed chords around a tactile, acid-flecked deep house groove on superb opener "Island". While "We Are" is similarly drowsy and yearning in feel, "Aura" sees him bring squelchy acid bass to the fore in a successful bid to mix things up a bit. This is explored further on closer "Dawning Light", a stripped-back house jam built around a killer groove and nagging acid lines.
