British house hero now based in Berlin Red Rack 'Em returns for his always impressive Bergerac imprint with some properly deep and funky house jams on the Tomato Pope EP. Starting out with the dusty and choppy syncopations of the stomping title track, there's more quality to be found on the cheeky B side cut "Ocaj" with its woozy and hilarious vocal cut ups over a slow and rusty stomp with hazy wah wah guitar. Finally "Rhodes House" does exactly what it says on the tin with this short but sweet exercise in deepness that takes its cues from the imitable Moodymann. Following up some great tracks recently for the likes of Nettles and Nsyde, Danny Berman's on a roll at the moment!

The artists more commonly known as Soulwax continue their re-edit adventures with a fourth volume in their excellent Waffles series. On the A-side, they take their rusty scalpel to Pilou's "Ca Va", a tongue-in-cheek Belgian disco treat that originally landed in 1982. Their version makes much of the original's rubbery, low-slung bassline, hustlin' funk riffs and camp, tongue-in-cheek vocals. On the flip, they turn their attention to Isabelle Mayereau's 1980 new wave cut "On A Trouve", stretching it out for maximum cosmic disco pleasure. It's a fine rework, of course, but lacks the sheer party-starting thrills of the quirky A-side.

By signing up the French genius Pepe Bradock on remix duties Classic had on their hands a future anthem. Bradock's singular, fresh production style pushed the track into the imaginations of numerous DJ's and ensured the track would find it's place in the bags and mixes of heads for years to come. Still sounding totally alien today with it's mix of human sounds twisted through digital treatments, Mint Condition are extremely proud to unleash these cult remixes backed with the unheard, unreleased versions and takes from the Pepe Bradock remix sessions for their debut release.

"Rouse" boasts the finest of basslines, a jazzy swing that moulds perfectly to the driving, tribalistic percussion which propels the track forwards, and ends up delivering a truly stunning cascade of chords. It comes from little known curio Jonny Sender and this is one that will appeal to the attendees of Dusseldorf's Salon des Amateurs or advocates of that venue's founding father Tolouse Low Trax. In particular lead track "Zhivago Zhivago" which features the vocals of Elhadj Fall plunged to the depths of the mix whilst Sasa Crnobrnja & Alex Gloor lay down a deliciously sleazy, mid-tempo throb. Who better to remix it than Romania's foremost exponents of electronic psychedelia Khidja Andrei Rusu and Florentin Tudor have outdone themselves on this remix. Nothing says 'disco' quite like records that shamelessly celebrate the delights of having a good time. Flipside's 1980 jam, "Havin' A Party", is one of the better examples - and certainly amongst the most obscure. The punchy disco-funk number was initially self-released on the band's own Flipside Records imprint, and has been unknown to all but a handful of hardcore crate diggers ever since. It has certainly aged well, with urgent vocals and clipped guitars riding a seriously heavy disco-funk groove. B-side "Music (Gets Me High)" is almost as good, with superb, hip-hop friendly drum breaks ushering in a hazy, super-sweet song that revels in its' joyous celebration of the merits of feel-good music.
