Jakarta based Jonathan Kusuma delivers a new EP on Cocktail d'Amore Music. After his European debut on Cosmo Vitelli's I'm A Cliche, followed by a successful EP on Berlin's imprint Love On The Rocks, the Indonesian artist keeps carrying the vessel of the Far East sound. The title track 'Black Magic' is a fat disco-tribal inspired groove that builds fast, eventually climaxing with a cloud of acid synths and mystical vocals. Japanese duo Mascaras (Chida and Cos/Mes' 5ive) straighten up the groove giving a 4/4 beats restyling. The result is a proto-techno, trance influenced soundscape, for foggy late-night dancefloors. 'Urban Sorcery' is an Italo inspired maze of proto-acid synthesizers, sounding like an enchanted concrete-covered forest. 90's house inspired 'Red Vox' is an experiment of cosmic influences. As the vocal becomes part of the groove, the long pads fuel this spaceship pushing it to the borders of time and space.

Description:
Optimo's spin-off label has been home to some of the most endearing dance floor oddities of the past few years and this release is in the same vein. The work of French composer and pianist Fabrizio Ferrero, the four tracks consist entirely of drum machines and acoustic pianos. The results are jarring, awkward and quite unlike much contemporary techno. "Pinky" has the wonky chaos of Herbert's house work, while the piano lines on "Ring" are so far to the front of the arrangement that they sound like they are coming through the speakers. "Thumb" ends the release with doubled up drums and insistent drones.

Having gained huge amounts of radio play for his own productions, as well as the occasional cheeky re-edit, Scrimshire brings us two firing reworks of a couple of musical rarities covering latin, soul and disco angles. His re-work of the 1975 Brazilian obscurity Tatarue by Giovana aims both barrels firmly at the dancefloor, while his extended edit of the Morris Wilson's version of Rappers Delight, entitled Bebopper's Delight, thankfully extends the original's 1'35 length with some typically Scrimshire twists and turns along the way.

The third release from new imprint Dama Dama, is another offering from label co-founder Pedestrian; following the label’s well-received debut EP - ‘Circadian Rhythms’. ‘Pick Your Shots Clean’ is a track inspired by this spring’s European Dama Dama Label Launch Tour, which saw founding members Pedestrian & Maribou State take to the road, curating bespoke parties with back to back all night DJ sets. As ever, the music itself is hard to categorise, but we would say that it sits somewhere between a rugged 90’s Chemical Brothers track and a 70’s Arabian psych-rock Record. The flipside - ‘Airs & Graces’ - serves as a counter-balance (a kind of yang to the ying of the a-side), that picks up where Circadian Rhythms left off, taking the listener off on a melodic 5-minute trip.

"(Eerie) For Your Love" is particularly potent, with the duo layering up line after line of synthesizer sweetness atop a jazzy and tactile groove. It's positive, atmospheric and thoroughly beguiling, with nods towards classic Floating Points and the 'scandolearic' nu-disco of Prins Thomas's Full Pupp label. The duo's love of loose and snappy drum machine percussion comes to the fore on the similarly blissful and Balearic B-side, "Maiden Voyage", which is every bit as delightful as its' predecessor.
