"The Detroit Upright EP" features two choice cuts patented Deetroit electronic soul music. Patrice’s musical foundation was laid and developed in Detroit and the inspiration continues to this day. The playful interplay between keyboards, syncopated percussion and warm Rhodes instantly grabs the listener on title track; fizzing and shaking through its duration and would surely be a big play for one Mr Kyle Hall or Floating Points. "Who We Are" takes things a little harder but loses none of that rich presence and human touch; delicate melodies fluttering over languid keys while a typically Detroitan beat marches force. Pure class from Patrice Scott. Recommended.

MERC is very proud to welcome Mark Seven as guest editor on E-Versions 7. It took a long time, a lot of telephone conversations, a lot of pleading, digging, sweat and tears to simply find out what TONY'S SLICE was after hearing it on Mark's Parkway Mastermix.
Turns out its MKVIIs attempt at recreating a live mix by Tony Humphries he heard on Kiss cutting 2 copies of the phone conversation back and forward forever.
With EV#7 looming we knew this would be a perfect opportunity to have a guest on the series, so we persisted and broke him down and he finally gave in to the pressure. Those who've always enjoyed his more peak-time productions will love this new two-tracker for Futureboogie, as it sees him applying his love of loop jams to suit darker, sweatier dancefloors. "Basement Trax 1" sets the tone, looping vintage, Twilo-era organ motifs over a tactile but chugging, nine-minute groove. "Basement Trax 2" is a little more musically expansive, with dreamy chords and similarly ear-catching organ motifs slowly building over a punchy house rhythm and undulating synth bassline.

You can always trust Ludovic Llorca. Once a year he locks himself in his studio and works his house magic for a classic Local Talk release. His previous releases on Local Talk, "The Same Thing" (classic proto-house-meets-baggy US garage vibe) and "The Rainbow Song" (underground Summer anthem in waiting") are well established crowd pleasers for anyone with ears, hands and two turntables, and now, Ludo returns with a third release, "I Just Can't". While some producers struggle with new ideas, trying to re-invent the genre, Ludo sticks to what he knows best. Strings and chords combined with a thick and squelchy bass is the foundation of the title track while on the flip, "Dirty Stories", is as hypnotic as it is jackin' - in fact, both tracks are so irresistible you'd start wondering if Ludo stole them from a snake charmer.
