Alongside Expansion’s release of Leon’s two iconic Elektra albums, back to back on one CD, two super rare 12” tracks are hereby reunited. The first issue of this 12” came in 1982 and was only ever intended to be for promotional use. Original pressings have sold for over ￡300. Leon Ware wrote and produced for an impressive array of other artists, most notably Marvin Gaye on “I Want You”, and his own work continues to be as in demand as ever. “Why I Came To California” (also on Expansion 7”) is one of his signature tracks and features guest co-vocalist Janis Siegel, a nine time Grammy winner and seventeen time Grammy nominee from Brooklyn, New York.

Organism on legendary Osaka label Vanity Records) and Yuji 'Banana' Kawashima, Lingua Franca-1 is a seamless voyage of spellbinding mutant funk grooves, joyful post-punk explorations, synth fantasies, sexy distortions, and fluid cool-no-sweat vocals. Constantly mutating in an almost biological way, always mysterious and seductive, sometimes reminiscing of a freaky cross between PiL, Liquid Liquid, Bowie and Yello, EP-4's debut is hard to label, although 'Debonair Wave' could be a legitimate way to describe this Japan's best-kept-secret of an album.

Cited by the likes of Dam Funk as an influence, the raw funk oozing through the mix on both versions was ahead of its time and veering towards more of a proto house sound that kicks dancefloors like a mule. The standard vocal is much more focused on Rick Clarke's strong vocal while the version goes all out with full bass runs and the obligatory saxophone solo. Abracadabra... Reach out and grab this.

It would be fair to say that "Bourgie Bourgie" was one of the 1970s disco scene's true staples. Ashford and Simpson produced numerous versions (Gladys Knight and the Pips' take being the most famous), while John Davis and the Monster Orchestra served up their own typically over-the-top take. It's arguably their instrumental version, though, that remains the greatest take. Here, it gets a welcome reissue backed by an epic interpretation from Joaquin "Joe" Claussell. His eleven-minute "Classic Remix" - effectively a Tom Moulton style 12" rework - does a great job in teasing out the killer drum breaks, flitting between percussive passages and sections that showcase the original's now familiar orchestrated sweeps. It's a fantastic remix that will do wonders on disco dancefloors.
