Swedish disco aficionado Drop Out Orchestra has been plying his trade in the world of slick edits and on-point party fodder for the best part of ten years now, and now he comes to Riot Gear with a sure fire club classic to share. There's no prizes for guessing the source material on "Holding On", but in this context the evergreen crossover jam gets a modern steroid injection, having never sounded more contemporary than here. Yam Who? sidles in for a remix that does a subtle job, simmering down some of the familiar vocals and making a slinkier cut that still hits hard. "Knucklehead" brings a little more jacking drum machine action to the table, but still disco is the main order of the day, while "Where Is My Man" takes the prize with its on point jazz funk licks and stomping beat.

Originally released in 1986, A La Izquierda Del Colibri is a worldly product of the era in the same way as the work of Jah Wobble and Brian Eno, rich in new wave funk but reaching to a higher plane thanks to all manner of sonic devices. From treated jungle sounds to swooping pads, the whole album feels like an exotic trek through the heat and mystery of Central America, at times leaving the Western world far behind and at other times embracing it. A captivating listen.

Here's something to cheer: the first EP from Dimitri From Paris and DJ Rocca's collaborative Erodiscotique project following the release of last year's superb debut album on BBQ Japan. As usual, their inspirations and musical reference points tend towards the vintage. Opener "One For Frankie", for example, smothers a vintage Chicago house groove with the kind of dreamy, positive and melodious musical flourishes that were a hall mark of Frankie Knuckles best productions, while "Zanzibar" pays tribute to the bustling, percussive, synth-heavy pressure of early '80s NYC and NJ "proto-house" productions. Henrik Schwarz and !K7 are proud to announce a collaboration that will bare many different musical fruits.The first of these is a brand new label called Between Buttons, curated by Henrik and focused on acoustic sounds and contemporary compositions. Between Buttons will be in partnership with !K7’s own neo-classical hub 7K!, and will kick off with a new mini LP by Schwarz entitled Works Piano, followed by an EP entitled Aphorisms by Syrian artists Khaled Kurbeh & Raman Khalaf Ensemble.
