When it comes to house and techno reissues, few labels have quite as strong a reputation as Mint Condition. Since launching last year, they've delivered must-have material from Pepe Bradock, Paul Hester, Robert Owens and Circulation, amongst others. Here they turn their attention to the back catalogue of house-era Matthew Herbert, delivering a new pressing of 1996's Classic Herbert. All three tracks are amongst the producer's strongest dancefloor workouts. Check, for example, the bumpin', proto-boompty drums, mind-altering sub-bass and killer vocal samples of "Got To Be Movin", or the whistling melody lines, Detroit techno influences and fluid riffs of the deliciously positive "Fat King Fire". Arguably best of all, though, is the jazzier "Housewife", which feels like a template for so much of his later deep house material.

The song was originally recorded as a mid-tempo piano driven gospel song, however after producer Patrick Cowley saw a rehearsal of the song at San Francisco's city disco, he offered to remix the song.The result was one of the pioneering disco records using some electronic instrumentation and effects, following closely on "I Feel Love" by Donna Summer which heavily used electronic instrumentation ahead of its time. These 1970s songs using electronic instrumentation would have an influence on 1980s and 1990s dance music, which in turn, would have an influence on dance music in the next century.

Not An Animal Records was formed in 2015 out of the ashes of the London-based party Bad Passion, and has thus far welcomed the likes of Man Power, Ess O Ess and Eric Duncan to release on the label. Now they turn to James Hadfield, a relatively new producer previously spotted on To Rack & Ruin and Me Me Me. On this four-tracker he deals in brooding synthwave tones mixed with classic jack track rhythms. "Literate" is just the kind of taut, sinister club creeper we can't get enough of, while "Buried Answers" takes a skippier but no less moody approach. On the remix front, Jamie Blanco takes the prize, turning "Buried Answers" into a bombastic slice of driving synth pop.

J.A.K.A.M is Japanese artist Takashige Miyawaki, a long standing producer commonly found on Crosspoint Records. On this release for the ever intriguing Malka Tuti label Miyawaki draws on a thrilling spread of influences to make a truly soul-stirring track. At times the vocals lean towards a Middle Eastern lilt while the saxophone burns with the fire of the post punk era. With monolithic drum hits, yearning violin and plenty more besides, "Wabi Sabi" is a many-headed beast of a track. Moscoman takes the original and simmers it down to a more focused but no less exotic tribal house workout.
