He's in fine form, too, delivering a quartet of tracks that largely steer clear of predictable deep house tropes. Check, for example, the curious - but rather good - "Russian Woodpecker", where spacey synth hits and Scanner style mobile field recordings join forces with a jumpy bassline and off-kilter rhuthm track. The loose and dreamy "Repeater" adds a little dub-wise flavour to a loose and lo-fi, MPC head's take on dream house, while "How To Ruin The World" is an undeniably melancholic journey that's as melodious as it as lo-fi. Closer "Lone Star", meanwhile, is a stripped back groove joint of the highest calibre.

Description:

The sole single from obscure French boogie outfit Klaps, released in limited quantities at some point in the early 1980s, has long been an in-demand item amongst moneyed record collectors. This reissue, then, should be great news to all those unwilling to fork out upwards of L500 for an original copy. It's a sublime slice of rubbery, synth-heavy electrofunk complete with sugary-sweet crew vocals and starry, early '80s soul touches. The flipside dub, which adds a little reverb and delay while allowing each musical element more room to breathe, is arguably even better. Some obscure, in-demand records are not all that great: "All The Way You Move" is fantastic.

Best known for his work in Can, there are also many more sides to this singular sticksman, and Emotional Rescue has chosen to shine a light on his post-Can period living in Stollwerck. On the A side of this 7" curio is the sound of Phantom Band with Linear Johnson & The Protons. "Rush Rush" has a spiky new wave bent to it, but still Liebezeit's drumming stands out. The B side "Drums Off Chaos" need little explanation - it's the sound of one of the all-time drumming greats letting rip in a ferocious blast of percussive abandon.

The Italian funk god Luis Enriquez Bacalov is celebrated here with this unmissable 7-inch record, featuring two of his grooviest tracks ever: on the A-side, the legendary CARREFOUR is maybe his funkiest soundtrack piece, here released for the first time in its entirety, with an unexpected introduction via a powerful horn section, which was cut from the original 1976 RCA 7’’. Behold an eternal jazz-funk masterpiece with solid drum breaks and hip hop heavy beats, funky congas, wah wah guitar, psychedelic organ. This track was used for the 1976 movie “Colpita da improvviso benessere”, directed by Franco Giraldi, but was originally conceived for the 1974 movie “Sistemo l'America e torno” by Nanni Loy. Having busted out a staggering amount of edits for Disco Fruit over the past few years, Loshmi makes his vinyl debut for the label with the Drugstore EP, and he's packing even more of that feel-good funk in the process. The title track is a heavy, sample-a-delic jam with a deadly flute lead and heated organs, while "Wsoop Wsoop" opts for an outright boogie freakout of the highest calibre. "Sweet And Nasty" heads in the direction of Salsoul Records to inject some Philly heat into the house beats on offer, and then "Still Loving You" rides the EP out on a sweet, soulful tip.

10" special on the A to Z label, limited run on these so don't snooze. Lodger takes two staples disco grooves from his collection and chops em up for maximum pleasure. "A" isn't ringing any bells with me, so hats off to Lodger for mining the lesser-known seams of disco gold on this number. His arrangement skills are obviously quite proficient as this edit grooves along nicely with added filter sections pulled off with aplomb. On side B he uses the same delectable track that was used by Zaf on a recent Moton 12" ("Doin Your Own Thing" by Tangereu). Basically, as one Patrick Ryder said at the time: 'jazz without the beret, house without the gurn and disco without any irony at all. Mega!'. I couldn't agree more, this is a right gem.
