Selva Discos fulfills its duty of giving a new life to Fernando Falcao's long lost LPs with the reissue of his album Barracas Barrocas, originally released through Egberto Gismonti's cult record label Carmo in 1987. Somehow, an original copy of this album is even more elusive than its predecessor Memoria das Aguas and it is a pity that such a stunning piece of music was kept apart from listeners worldwide for so long. The follow-up to Memoria das Aguas was recorded in Sao Paulo after Fernando Falcao returned from his exile in France in 1984. As far as collaborative delights go, this really takes the cake. Miami boogie wildcard Noel Williams, aka King Sporty, throwing it down heavy with legendary Jamaican reggae axe man Ernest Ranglin - as you might expect, the results are incendiary. "Soft Touch" has a hint of the cosmic about it as it romps through insanely catchy chorus chants, stirring brass stabs and Ranglin's sweet licks. "Keep On Dancing" has a more uptempo feel, "In The Rain" slips into a laid back reggae skank and "Be What You Want To Be" turns the vintage disco heat back up....and more

Following on from the incredibly well received reissue of Rick Clarke’s sensuous Street Soul number ‘Love With A Stranger’, Local Records dust off the tapes once again to reissue a Brit Funk gem from Janet Kay. Originally released back in ’84, ‘Eternally Grateful’ encompasses the Brit Funk sound with a melting pot of styles that inspired the movement. Marrying Kay’s R&B infused vocals with a British flavoured boogie funk, jazzed up horns and a dubby bass, there’s a pop tinge that keeps things catchy and soulful in equal measure. Hold tight for those spiritual synth lines. Stratospheric stuff that will leave you feeling like you’ve been dancing in outer space.
