Having previously plied his wares on Distant Hawaii, Rhythm Section International and Moods and Grooves, amongst others, Hidden Spheres has decided to launch his own label. Fittingly, he's handled the first release himself, serving up a quartet of tracks that each boasts samples from forgotten 1970s documentary Wonders of the Rainforest. Given the title and sample theme, it's perhaps unsurprising that it's a thoroughly colourful, vibrant and synthesizer heavy affair, with opener "Forest Soil" (accompanied on side A by a wondrous ambient "Reprise") delivering a pitched-down slice of Italian style dream house bliss. Elsewhere, "Sapodila" sees him serving up a chugging chunk of tribal deep house/dub disco fusion and "Lianas" joins the dots between summery jazz-funk and Safe Trip style new age house.

Brazilian deep house maestro Apoena has hopped around all kinds of labels, shoring up at Underground Quality and Stuga Musik in the early days, but now you're most likely to find him rolling out the good stuff on his own Allnite imprint. This collection of Edits Brazuca are as potent as anything he's released since first coming to light back in 2010, kicking off with the bright and breezy horn-soaked "Track 1" before sinking into a Latin jazz flavoured groove on "Track 2". Emotional Rescue ends the Capo Disco series by returning to Glen Adams and his cover of Bob Marley’s classic. The early 70s Lee Perry produced original raw sound is taken to the disco reggae dancefloors of the early 80s with a bottom heavy jam, while his Capo Crew works a killer dub flipside. “Fussing & Fighting” was originally released on the 1971 Soul Revolution album and for many came during the pinnacle of Bob Marley & The Wailers output, before the smoothing out of their sound during the later “Island” years. Whichever, the guidance and collaboration with Perry transformed the Wailers from a successful Ska / Rocksteady group towards a visionary, conscious, crossover phenomena.

Sharif Laffrey is something of an unheralded hero of the underground Detroit scene. Active since the halcyon days of the mid-90s Motor City rave movement, his sporadic releases are rarely less than superb (as those who copped last year's radical, thrillingly wayward acid house mutilation of Pet Shop Boys "Always On My Mind/In My House" will attest). The single-sided "And Dance" is another delightfully wonky epic; a 14-minute fusion of chopped-up Italo-disco loops, rising and falling acid lines and heavily manipulated spoken word vocals. There are multiple stops, starts, breakdowns, drops and build-ups, with Laffrey subtly building up the pressure via waves of wonky Motor City electronics throughout. There aren't many of these around, so act fast if you want to secure a copy.

lan Abrahams aka Portable aka Bodycode is an artist very much defined by his past and his journey from South Africa to Paris via Berlin and Lisbon has seen him develop into a critically acclaimed producer, singer and video artist working with some of the biggest players in house and techno.
