The Alishan Forest Railway is a 86 km network of narrow-gauge railways running through the forests of Alishan Mountain in Chiayi County, Taiwan. During the Spring months, the iconic red train passes through an endless array of cherry blossoms and small, untouched villages. This peaceful scene is set in contrast to the stories told by locals, of wandering spirits seen deep in the forest. The spirits are believed to be the lost souls of the 32 passengers, who perished in the tragic derailment of the train in 1981. Burn a candle in remembrance when you play this record at the club.

After spending last autumn working alongside Rampa and Adam Port (see the trio's excellent "You Are Safe" album on Keinemusik), Andre "&Me" Boadu has enjoyed a quiet 2018. In fact, this outing on Pampa is his first release of 2018. He begins with the atmospheric and undulating delight that is "In Your Eyes", a slightly jazz-flecked rolling deep house excursion that brilliantly builds energy throughout. Boadu accomplishes this using two contrasting melodic elements: fluid piano solos and a foreboding electronic motif that increases in prominence and intensity as the track progresses. Over on side B, "As Above So Below" is an altogether deeper proposition, with hushed, cymbal heavy percussion, tech-tinged drums and a spacey, undulating synthesizer melody combining to create a hazy late night mood.

Giorgio Gordano and Giorgio Dolce originally produced "KKK" back in 1983, and the track was taken into the hearts of the blossoming Balearic scene hovering around DJ Alfredo at Amnesia. It's as gentle and sweet natured as Italo disco can be, and of course it makes perfect sense that Best Records would dig it out of the archives and give it the shiny new reissue it deserves. The "Club Mix" of "KKK" is a feast of simple, charming programmed melodies and crisp drum machine rhythms with the innocence of the early 80s in its heart. The "Dub Mix" and "Bonus Beats" on the flip are handy for the technical DJs out there, but the "Club Mix" is where it's at for the lovers.

Having played at On Loop’s 1st birthday in 2017 after guesting on Moxie’s NTS show the previous year, we are delighted to welcome LK back to the family for our seventh release. Hailing from Leeds, he’s been a producer on the rise for a few years now after standout releases on labels like Shall Not Fade and Ruff Draft. Previously releasing under the alias Viers, as LK he offers something with a more soulful touch. Each offering on the three-tracker brings something slightly different to the package. Title track ‘Dreams’ has been made with the dancefloor in mind, whilst the summery ‘(I Wanna) Make Luv 2 U’ is drawn from laid-back Soul and Motown influences. Slow burner ‘Summer Of 93’ closes the EP, with a direct nod to the slinky vibes of 70s disco.

Description:

Mystical Choices, the LPH debut for Dutch producer Perdu, starts with “Saromosa,” a swirling witch's brew of percussion and chants. From there, we go to “Tanora,” which is equally hypnotic, but a little more pensive and wound up, like it's a pot of water just on the cusp of hitting its boiling point. The B-side is a further exploration of the terrain laid out with the first two tunes, “Savana” taking us in a more acoustic direction, “Textures” adding a little more synth to the spicing. Keep dancing.
